Why does my recessed light continually turn on and off on it's own?
Q. I have a recessed light on a 20 amp circuit. It is on a three outlet switch in a bathroom. I have the ceiling light, vent fan and recessed light on the same switch. Does the light have a heat overload sensor on it to keep it from getting too hot? The fan and ceiling light stay on while the recessed light will stay on and then go off. After a short time it will come back on. When it kicks off I have tried flipping the breaker and the switch, but it still takes time for it to come back on. Any ideas?

A. Most Recessed lights contain a heat sensor that turns off the lamp when overheated. It could be that you just have a bulb that exceeds the rating for your fixture. Never install a 110 watt bulb in a recessed can light. Most of the time they're rated for around a 60 watt bulb. This could be a fire hazard if you continue to overheat the fixture so take precautions to be sure you have the appropriate lamp. When you remove the bulb there will usually be a label inside the fixture telling you not to exceed a certain wattage on the lamp (bulb).

Can light coloured eyes be the cause for some health problems?
Q. I am just wondering because I have extremely light blue eyes and have had many stys, really watery eyes, very sensitive to light and all of that fun stuff. All of that's pretty minor but I heard that light eyes is linked to both blindness and deafness which is kind of scary. Is there any relation between all of it?

A. No relation between colour of the eyes and eye problems.It is colour of the iris responsible for the appearance of the eye.Colour of the iris depends upon the production of the melenin pigments. This pigments are also responsible for the colour of the skin and hair.People with refractive error, constipation, anaemia, dendruff, diabetis are more prone to develop multiple styes. Eyes with light coloured iris are more sensitive to light.

How much light do guppies need or prefer?
Q. I keep my guppies in the kitchen, but it's dark in there. They don't show any problems from being kept in the dark all day, but they really perk up when I come home and turn the lights on. A lot of fish don't do well with direct light, but should I leave the lights on while I'm at work? I'd prefer not to waste electricity, but if it keeps my guppies happy... Your thoughts, please.

A. Guppies will do fine with just a few hours of light. I suggest a simple $8.00 timer. Have the lights come on a few hours before you arrive home so you can enjoy them and they can get 6 hors of so of light. They should have some access to light for full color development and optimal health. While keeping them in near total darkness would not harm them, they would be less likely to breed and show off pretty colors.
