Heliskiing is off-trail, downhill skiing that is accessed by a helicopter, not a ski lift. Heliskiing is essentially about skiing in a natural – albeit highly selected – environment without the effort or gear compromise required for hiking into these areas as in ski touring or ski mountaineering. Most heliskiers are seeking specific, pleasurable skiing conditions that are hard to replicate in the highly manipulated terrain of ski resorts: particularly powder snow, but also long descents, natural terrain contours and features, smooth corn snow, old-growth tree glades, steep and extreme slopes, or for the more adventuresome, wild snow and a natural, variable environment. The presence of the guide and machine offer some protection against the risks and discomforts unavoidably associated with entering this mountainous environment, allowing skiers with little or no mountain sense to enjoy a wild environment. Life insurance covers you if you die. I don't think you are planning that so we can say your life insurance does not cover it. You can ask your health insurance provider if you are covered. If you get insurance through work or school in the US then it should cover you, but check to make sure. If you don't have health insurance you can buy travel insurance, but be certain it covers dangersous activities like climbing and helisking. I go to Mike Wiegeles' in Blue River BC every spring for 3 days. Well worth the money! Most operations provide skis and poles, and safety gear. Wiegeles is a top-notch operation, great food and accommodation. Try to be well rested for your trip, day 1 can be tiring. Pay close attention to what your guide says, it could save your life. A sunny day, untouched snowfields, good food and companionship, it doesn't get any better. Answered by jims - Sat Jan 17 13:16:03 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Heliskiing"
