Proper nounSingular Asia Plural - Asia
Related termsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Asia is the world's largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It covers 8.6% of the earth's total surface area (or 29.9% of its land area) and with approximately 4 billion people, it hosts 60% of the world's current human population. Asia is traditionally defined as part of the landmass of Eurasia — with the western portion of the latter occupied by Europe — located to the east of the Suez Canal, east of the Ural Mountains and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma-Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean. Given its size and diversity, Asia — a toponym dating back to classical antiquity — is more a cultural concept incorporating a number of regions and peoples than a homogeneous physical entity (see Subregions of Asia, Asian people). The wealth of Asia differs very widely among and within its regions, due to its vast size and huge range of different cultures, environments, historical ties and government systems. In terms of nominal GDP, Japan has the largest economy on the continent and the second largest in the world. In purchasing power parity terms, however, China has the largest economy in Asia and the second largest in the world. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia? Q. I was thinking about buying a small yacht in the next year and sailing across the pacific with a friend. By default i was just planning to buy it in california and sail west. While tossing the idea around my friend suggested that instead we fly to somewhere in asia and buy a boat there and sail it back. His thinking being that if they are made over there half the price must be transporting it to america! If we bought it in america and sail it over there, then decided we dont know what to do with it and want to sell it we may not be able to get back even 1/3rd of our investment (supply and demand). But if we go there first and sail back we might even be able to sell it for more than we paid! Any ideas, tips or thigns we should look out… [cont.] Asked by riverspecialist - Mon Aug 6 05:44:05 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. They say the cheapest place to buy a used boat is in the Canary Islands, because many have started off from Africa and that is as far as their mates would sail. So many boats are sold or abandoned there. Cheoy Lee is a good boat, too. Have any boat surveyed before buying it. I'm looking for the most inexpensive way to get to SouthEast Asia. I am planning to go backpacking for the month of January. Any suggestions? If you are planning to go in January 2009 good luck. Plane ticket prices tend to be cheaper when booked further in advance. Q. I am aware that it is predominantly spoken in S. Africa but are there a lot of Afrikaaners living abroad in Asia? Asked by meeeeeee - Wed Aug 12 20:02:53 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Maybe. It means "African" in Dutch, and is related to Dutch. Maybe you could google a map of the Afrikaans-speaking world. I just looked on Wikipedia (not always a very reliable source), and it said there are small Afrikaaner communities in Taiwan.
