It covers 8.6% of the Earth's total surface area (or 29.9% of its land area) and with approximately 4 billion people, it hosts 60% of the world's current human population. During the 20th century Asia's population nearly quadrupled. Asia is traditionally defined as part of the landmass of Eurasia — with the western portion of the latter occupied by Europe — located to the east of the Suez Canal, east of the Ural Mountains and south of the Caucasus Mountains (or the Kuma-Manych Depression) and the Caspian and Black Seas. It is bounded on the east by the Pacific Ocean, on the south by the Indian Ocean and on the north by the Arctic Ocean. Given its size and diversity, Asia — a toponym dating back to classical antiquity — is more a cultural concept incorporating a number of regions and peoples than a homogeneous physical entity (see Subregions of Asia, Asian people). GNU Free Documentation License Is it cheaper to buy a sailboats in asia? Q. I was thinking about buying a small yacht in the next year and sailing across the pacific with a friend. By default i was just planning to buy it in california and sail west. While tossing the idea around my friend suggested that instead we fly to somewhere in asia and buy a boat there and sail it back. His thinking being that if they are made over there half the price must be transporting it to america! If we bought it in america and sail it over there, then decided we dont know what to do with it and want to sell it we may not be able to get back even 1/3rd of our investment (supply and demand). But if we go there first and sail back we might even be able to sell it for more than we paid! The great depression was exacerbated by a fledgling fed that did exactly the opposite of what they should have done. That is, they took liquidity out of the system rather than adding it. Regarding your question, a collapse of the largest economy in the world (we are four, some think five times larger than China in GDP) would send the entire world into a depression. Since we would presumably default on our treasury bonds, of which China and Japan hold the most in the world, countries who hold our bonds as foreign reserves would experience a crisis of liquidity.
